Between 2001 and 2004, French couple Sonia and Alexandre Poussin travelled across Africa by foot from South Africa to the Tiberiade Lake. They made out of this fascinating adventure named “Africa Trek” a series of articles, books and documentaries which have become best-sellers in the travel movie and literature sector.
Today, the couple is going back on the roads with its children for a new ambitious project. Since May, they are involved in “Mada Trek”: after building their own zebu-drawn wagon for months, they are now travelling through Madagascar at cattle pace.
As they will be taken to isolated areas where the communications network is not always available, the Poussin family needed a foolproof communication system both for its security and for its readers and partners to be able to follow the different stages of their journey. Already equipped with the appropriate GSM material, they called us for assistance with an Iridium backup phone and a geo-location system.
We felt using GT300 as a tracking tool would be best fitted to their project and needs. The device is small and discreet, an essential requirement when space is rationalized like in a cart, and the use of GSM makes non-stop tracking over several months and even years very affordable. When the vehicle will get out of the GSM-covered network, GT300 will continue to record their positions and retransmit them all to our tracking application Globeinfos as soon as it reaches a covered zone again. The only obligation: keep the device’s battery charged!
The Poussin family path as tracked by Globeinfos is made publicly available on their website in Google Maps and Google Earth version. On overall, GT300 offers very interesting complementary tool for them to tell their story: it allows them to share in real-time with their readers their GPS location, the speed of their cart, the distance they covered since they started their journey and even more!
GT300 is a small and discreet lightweight device which can be track in real-time individual, vehicles and parcels via the GSM network on our application Globeinfos. Accounts and information are private and confidential but it is also possible to share them online with an audience.
